Rasma Says

Musings, deliberations, flashes of unaccounted for brilliance…

Strike and Counterstrike

the village of Hamar has sent school satchels to Gaza
and paper, reams of blank paper for making school books
and pencils
and pencil sharpeners
and rulers and erasers
all the crisp and shiny things a child of Gaza dreams of
when he dreams of school
and the promise of school
which is freedom

but Israel has stormed the boat
and slain the unarmed guardians of school supplies
forgetting that it was the hope of children
that gave them access to that land

here, the children tune into the morning news
watching, hoping for an escalation
of the strike
that will cancel classes
for the rest of the week
the year

what they dream of when they dream of school
is closed doors and books
absent teachers
discarded pencil stubs
all of which add up to a promise
of freedom

seems like this shouldn't be hidden here, but published somewhere, or at least have been published somewhere more public at the time – or is it still going on, just not making the telly news any more? How'd's it sound in Norwegian?
